What Are the Different Types of Codes and How Do They Work?

Every aircraft is equipped with a transponder that responds to radar interrogation by displaying an identifier. This allows ATC to locate the aircraft in a busy radar screen. Transponders can be configured to respond in various ways when asked. Mode A only transmits the code and mode C provides altitude data. Mode S transponders send more detailed information like callsigns and positions. This can be helpful in airspace that is crowded.

The block configuration of the discrete code is dependent on statistical analysis to limit the possibility of two aircrafts with the same SQUAWK code being in the same area.

A transponder key is equipped with an embedded chip that holds the ID code. If the security light on a car comes on, it means that the ID code of the key doesn't match the code stored in the computer. The car's immobilizer will be disabled and it won't be able to start unless there is a new key. PIN codes

A PIN code is a set of numbers (usually four or six digits) that can be used to gain access to a device or system or service. The last six digits of the VIN code are a unique serial number that uniquely identifies the vehicle or truck. The last digit of the VIN code is also known as the check-digit. The rest of the numbers have been transliterated into numbers. For example the first digit receives a value of eight; the next digits increase by one until it reaches nine at seventh digit, which then changes to two. Then, the entire VIN is transformed back into its original form by multiplying the weight of each digit by 11. If the result is equivalent to the check number, then the VIN is valid.
